Natalie: Week 2

Running a little late on the post, but Natalie wrapped up her second week on Friday. It started off pretty busy with a lactation consultation on Monday and a 12 day check-up on Wednesday, and then tapered off to a more relaxed week for Natalie.

Both checkups went well with Natalie putting on enough weight to make the doctors happy. Monday she weighed 7lb 0.9 oz, and on Wednesday she was 7 lb 5 oz. She is continuing to get supplemental breast milk in a bottle after all feeding times to keep the weight gain up. We hope that she’ll get better at nursing and we’ll be able to cut out the pumping and bottle feeding because it takes a lot longer than just nursing her.

On Thursday, Grandma headed back to Michigan and it was just the three of us again. I think we are coping, but we do notice the loss of an extra set of hands. Having someone else helping with the cooking and cleaning is really helpful, and Natalie enjoys all the extra attention that only Grandma’s can give.

I have been enjoying my last couple days off before returning to work. I’ve also been working to get things a bit more in order while I have time off still. Costco and grocery runs were on order for Friday, and the front yard was finally weeded Saturday. Finally mowed the grass on Sunday (lots of it is pretty brown, but a couple areas are growing and needed to be trimmed) Its a lot harder to fit the chores in around feeding and other baby obligations, but I’m trying when I can.

We also took Natalie for her first walk outside the neighborhood on Saturday. It was a lovely day with temperatures down a bit, so we loaded up baby and stroller and headed over to Bluff Point. Natalie was strapped in the car seat and then latched into the stroller. It turned out to be a bit rocky and bumpy on the trail, so we didn’t get too far before heading back. Next time we’ll try out the jogging stroller now that we have the car seat attachment and see if it is a smoother ride.

After Bluff Point we took her for a walk along the Poquonnock River boardwalk, much smoother but pretty warm in the sun. It can be a bit tight on the boardwalk during these COVID times, so make sure to bring a mask in case you see other people. For the most part Natalie seemed to enjoy her outing, she slept pretty well in the stroller despite the rattling around, and only started getting fussy at the end of our trip when the hunger started to set in. Hopefully the good feelings continue as she gets bigger and we start to do longer trips.

I sent some film in on Monday, and by Thursday the lab had turned it around and had the scans back to me. Some good photos were found, and some not so good ones. The best are below.
