Time flies with a baby, and I sailed right past the one month date and now Natalie is getting close to 8 weeks.
First a quick recap of Month 1
It was quite the first month for all. After getting home we had an appointment with the doctors the next day to check on things and help with breastfeeding. Natalie had lost a percent or two more weight than the doctors wanted to see, so we were booked into a couple of follow ups and had to start pumping to supplement her feeding. Progress was slow at first as Natalie was a bit sleepy and didn’t always want to eat as much as was good for her, but by the time she got to her 12 day check up, she was back on track with weight gain. At her one month check up she was pretty much back up to her birth weight percentile, so everyone is very happy. Pumping is down to once a day, and Natalie is doing much better breastfeeding.
Apart from the growing side of things, Natalie is getting cuter and has more of that chunky baby look that everybody likes. She has smiling down and is getting better at using her smile to woo Mom and Dad and to show her happiness. She still expresses herself through her grunts, whines and cries, and she often has lots to say. At times it seems like she has a lot to complain about, but I think she just has very high standards and complains when everything isn’t perfect.
When we can muster up the time and energy, we get her out for walks: either around the block, or out to Bluff Point. She loves to doze off in the stroller and is pretty content even when the going gets bumpy. The weather has shifted cooler, so we are doing all we can to enjoy the fall weather.
On Saturday, we headed out to Holmberg Orchards to do some apple and pumpkin picking, and get some cider and donuts. It was a beautiful day and it was pretty busy, with lots of people out enjoying the day. We paid for our bags to pick the apples even though we don’t have a real need for apples, but you had to have a bag to go out to the orchard. After a bit of a wander around the trees, our bags were filled and we headed towards the pumpkin section.
Pumpkins were the original plan for coming out to the orchard, but at $15 per carving pumpkin, it seemed a bit steep, so we just enjoyed some of the props and photo stands that were set up. We also had to be mindful of Natalie as we were starting to run out of time untill she would want to eat next, so we headed over to the line to get some donuts and a gallon of cider for the road.
It was a nice day out in the sun, and Natalie was very cooperative and slept in her carrier the whole time. Next time we’ll bring a hat to make sure her head doesn’t get too much sun shine.

Next week, we go in for her two month appointment and Natalie will get her first round of shots. Poor girl doesn’t know what is coming, but hopefully she will not have too much pain and misery.
Thanks for the update. Love the pictures. What a lovely day you had.
